’tis the season for…Roasted Applesauce

Begin with as many apples as you can pick, scavenge, or buy.  Follow your favorite applesauce recipe, hot water bath for 20 minutes…and you’ve got early autumn goodness sealed away!

This is the recipe I used;

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 6 tablespoons packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of coarse salt
  • 3 pounds small assorted apples(about 10)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Mix the lemon juice, water, and brown sugar in the bottom of your pan.   Add apples and roast about 40 minutes at 425.  Process in food mill, heat again.  Once fully heated add spices, and can in a hot water bath.

    Add to your collection of goods!  Mine is coming along quite nicely.
