I started this blog in April of 2010.  It has followed me through a season at Broadturn Farm in Maine, a winter in Boston, three months at Spannocchia; a farm in Tuscany, Italy, back to Maine where I helped start a new farm, and now back to Wisconsin.

Now I co-own flower & bee, a farm business of my own!  I organically grow about a half acres of flowers in the beautiful hills outside of Fredonia, Wisconsin, which become part of our original creations for weddings, dinner parties, or any other special event.

I live on this gorgeous property with the farmers of Wild Ridge Farm, and together we are attempting to cultivate a larger farm community!

Thanks for being a part of the journey, or just stopping by!  I hope to share some of farm life with you and if people are curious, how a girl who went to school for art can become a farmer.

  1. You are so creative…Wayfaring (traveling mostly by foot)
and then the great photo of the boots…thanks for the invitation to travel vicariously with you! p.j.s.

  2. Hi Courtney,
I absolutely loved seeing this blog. So interesting! It all looks like hard, tiring, but very rewarding work.

  3. Hi Courtney,

I didn’t get a chance to know you at WFDC in Waukesha, but I am getting to know you quite well now. I envy the way you changed your life and are doing what you love.

Keep writing . . . we’re reading it back home.

  4. Hello Courtney
Thank you for sharing your great adventure. It was so nice to see how happy you look. Follow your dream and live each day. It is fun seeing thru your eyes the great adventure you are on.

  5. Thank you for including your website in the BTF blog. I spent my time at work last night reading it. My family and I have visited your farm and it is truly a magical place.

ps my favorite band ever is from Waukesha…The Bodeans. They played a now defunct bar in Portland back in the late 80’s and I’ve been hooked every since. 🙂

    • Thanks! I used to read blogs at work too-now I get to write them!

The BoDeans went to high school with my dad! Same high school I went to, and their niece Etta Llanas was one of my elementary school best friends! Glad to hear there are fans out there, I always think everyone has heard of them. I tell people, Les Paul and the BoDeans…only things Waukesha is famous for!

  6. Hi Courtney,
I stumbled on your blog through another blog, but wanted to shout out a hello from Waukesha!
We are a small homesteading family just learning.

Its been great to read about your adventures.

  7. I really loved sharing your journey and hope that you don’t stop writing (so sad if you would).

    Cheers from Switzerland,

    • Hey Cristina! Thanks for your kind words! I didn’t plan on such a long lapse in my writing, but I’ve had a lot going on, which I’ll be sure to update with details! Thanks for reading all the way from Switzerland! ~ Courtney Joy

  8. I stumbled across your blog, too. It’s delightful! I live on a small farm in New Hampshire, and so enjoy the bounty this time of year. Your flower arranging photos are exquisite!
